Top Ten Tuesday #3

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's topic is Top Ten Authors Who Deserve More Recognition. This is a bit of a toughie, but I think I've made my choices!

Rosemary Sutcliff:
While hugely popular in the UK, I think her amazing books need much more recognition in the US. A brilliant writer - and historian - she is the best historical fiction author I have ever read, and I wish she were still alive so she could continue to write. Some of my favorite books are hers, such as The Eagle of the Ninth.

Heather Dixon:
While she's only written one novel so far - Entwined - I think she deserves a lot of recognition for that alone. Entwined is one of my most favorite retellings of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. It has everything! Romance, humor, drama, mysteries, magic, intelligent girls, and a villain who is insanely awesome.

Lena Coakley:
Author of Witchlanders, she wrote one of my all-time favorite fantasy stories that also doubles as a terrific camaraderie story. And I love camaraderie stories. I loved her characters and her descriptions of the mountains - and I even thought her magic concept was really neat.

Jennifer A. Nielsen:
Her name really is already out there, but I still run into a lot of people who haven't read her books! :( Her Ascendance Trilogy, that is, and I think it is her most brilliant piece of work. Amazing characters, fun adventures, terrific wit - we need to spread the word about her awesomeness!

Marissa Doyle:
Author of Bewitching Season and Betraying Season, I love her historical fantasy books. I love the era and how she so seamlessly blends magic into our world in a historic setting. She combines humor and drama very well, and I have always liked her guy characters and her strong, intelligent female protagonists.

Judson Roberts:
Now here's an author who doesn't get nearly enough recognition. Writer of the Strongbow Saga, his books are some of my absolute favorite Viking stories. Meticulously researched, great writing style, and realistic characters, it's a shame that so few people know about his books!

Stephanie Burgis:
She needs more recognition so we can get more Kat Stephenson adventures! Another great writer of historical fantasy, I love Stephanie's stories because they combine fantasy with a classic Jane Austen wit - and Kat Stephenson is just too awesome.

K. M. Grant:
Another UK author, her books dearly need to get more recognition in the US. Writer of the De Granville TrilogyHow the Hangman Lost His Heart, and Belle's Song, she has written some wonderful historical fiction, with great characters, interesting topics, and even - in the case of How the Hangman Lost His Heart - a lot of great humor.

Jessica Day George:
Author of Princess of the Midnight BallDragon Slippers, and Tuesdays at the Castle, she also has written one of my most favorite retellings of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Her stories are full of fun and adventure and humor that every kid - and their parents! - will really enjoy. Even at the age of 21, I really enjoy her stories.

Victoria Schwab:
I am not a big fan of paranormal romances - or paranormal in general. But her books The Near Witch and The Archived complete kept me enthralled - and she even made me love present tense. Victoria Schwab totally deserves more recognition as a master storyteller.
