Sherlock Season 3 Launch Party

On January 20, 2014, the first episode of Sherlock: Season 3 aired on PBS - The Empty Hearse. Anyone who knows anything about the absolutely brilliant BBC show Sherlock will understand what a big deal this is. Fans have had to wait 2 years (2 years and 19 days for the Americans) for Season 3, and we only get 3 episodes (not that I'm exactly complaining. I mean, I do prefer quality over quantity, and they are 90 minutes each).

Sherlock cake; design found on Pinterest. You can't see it, but there's a little yellow smiley face on the side.
To celebrate Season 3 finally airing, I threw a Sherlock party! There were yellow and white streamers, yellow balloons with smiley faces, traditional British fish 'n' chips, and . . . . cake! Custom made by Cupcake Rhapsody, this four-layer devil's chocolate (with caramel mousse filling) was to die for. I can't even begin to describe how awesome this cake was - or the fish 'n' chips (but especially the cake).

The Sherlockians (and Bilbo, the Reading Hedgehog!)
While munching fish 'n' chips, we watched The Empty Hearse (and the 7-minute mini episode, Many Happy Returns). And because I'm brilliant and have my sources, we actually ended up watching all three episodes on the Internet. After the general uproar over The Empty Hearse, we broke for cake and started The Sign of Three. And then delved into His Last Vow. As party favors, I had T-shirts made up with Sherlock's silhouette, the words "KEEP CALM SHERLOCK LIVES," and the number of days we had to wait for Season 3 (749 days). It was a blast.

Hope all of the rest of the Sherlockians enjoyed (and are enjoying) Season 3! And cross your fingers that the rumors of a possible 2014 Christmas airing is true for Season 4!

  1. That cake does look pretty awesome, though I'd probably aim for the fish'n'chips. I'm not much of a sweets person.

Still, looks like a ton of fun! I just watched the newest episode the other day OnDemand (because I was reading and forgot about it on Sunday). Can't wait to see the next episode!

    1. That's the great thing about Cupcake Rhapsody's cakes - she balances just the right amount of sweet and icing.

THE SIGN OF THREE is awesome. THE EMPTY HEARSE may actually be my favorite out of this season, but Episode 2 is right up there as well.

  2. Hi there, fellow Sherlockians! Way to celebrate the return of our favorite show. Too bad we have to wait another year or two for the next season. Anyway, that cake is fantastic! Do you have recipes for it? I would love to bake something like that and hopefully perfect it before season 4 begins. Jason @ La Patisserie

    1. Hi, Jason! Yeah, it is too bad we have to wait another 2 years, but I'm not surprised. We've had to wait 2 years for every season. And I would rather have quality over speed or quantity, so I can't complain too much. Unfortunately, I don't have the recipe for the cake. I had it specially made at a bakery. :) Here's to trying to stay sane for the next 2 years! ;)
