Hedgehog Life: August 2014

Hello, all! I hope this last month of summer is treating you well!

It's been a pretty crazy month for me; I'm surprised I've gotten as much reading done as I have. I'm very proud of myself. I am well over halfway through my planned TBR pile - and I've even managed to squeeze in a few unplanned reads!

But I've also had time for fun stuff. I went to the county fair and rode lots of rides. That was fun - until I went on the Tilt-a-Whirl. Yay me, I didn't lose my cookies, but I did feel extremely ill and off-balance for the rest of the night, and most of the next day. No Tilt-a-Whirl for me ever again. I'll stick with rollercoasters, thank you.

I also took a trip to Powell's City of Books, spent way too much money, got a sugar high from Voodoo Donuts, and overall had lots of fun, even though I feel a little sick from the number of books I bought (*cough* 29 *cough*). I'm running out of shelf space!!

I've been continuing my BBC marathon, starting in on Jane Austen, George Elliott, and Elizabeth Gaskell. Nope, I haven't started my Sherlock-a-thon. I'm saving it for the winter, when I need something comforting to watch at the end of a long day.

But more fun things are coming up! Tomorrow, I'm going to the Midsummer Washington Renaissance Faire! I'm so sad that Cavallo Equestrian Arts isn't doing their Ma'Ceo acrobatics show, but I'm still looking forward to the joust and spending money on things I didn't know I needed. ;-) It's gearing up for another hot weekend, so I'm not dressing up this year. Yeah, I've wimped out. But I get to dress up for work on Halloween. :-)

I'm also going to go and see The Giver on the 20th, and Rifftrax Live: Godzilla on Tuesday! Both should be fun. The latter will be painful - Rifftrax Live always is, but in a fun way. And I actually have very high hopes for The Giver. I think it will be very different from the book, but I think the changes they will have made will be good for the movie. Guess we'll find out!

So that's pretty much August in a nut shell. Lots of fun, got a lot reading done, and even some writing. I finally figured out the niggly that was bothering me for my new novel. Oh yes, and I even got some things done in my library! I bought a rug, a reading lamp, put up the last of the trim, and my dad is building the last shelf at the end of the month. Pictures may be following sometime soon!

There is one other announcement. September is my vacation-from-blogging month. I will still be reading books, buying books, seeing movies, and accepting review requests. But I won't be updating my blog for the entire month of September. I have been blogging nonstop for 4 years, and I haven't taken a break during all that time. I am so exhausted and have a lot of other things I need to be doing. So I'm taking a vacation from blogging in September. I have a story to edit for a friend, and I want to actually work on my own story as well.

So, see you the rest of this month, and we'll be back in October!

  1. Hope you have a good time at the Renaissance Faire :) I just made an order from Powell's myself with some birthday money. Wish I could have gone so I could also have some donuts but, oh well, I still get a giant box of books :P Let me know what goodies you pick up at the Ren faire, they always have such cool stuff at those places :)

    1. I had a ton of fun at the Ren Faire! :) If you ever come out here, we'll hit Voodoo Donuts. My Ren Faire haul video will be up on Youtube sometime this week.

  2. It sounds like an awesome month! 29 books may have been a tad excessive, but it's not every day you go to Powell's, right? ;)

    1. A very exhausting month. With Powell's, it's always a thing of: if you're going to spend the time and the petrol to go down there, you'd better get a ton of books.
